Vietnam: car market improved in 2013. Toyota dominated and awarded as Brand of the Year.

December 2013, car sales boomed above 20% as Vietnamese car market is improving from the negative peak touched in 2012. The full year ended up 7.4%: Toyota dominates squashed competitors and was voted Brand of the Year with Three models on top of Model of the Year.

Accordingly with data released by VAMA, the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association, in December total light passengers vehicles sold in Vietnam were 9.578, up 20.9% from last year Full Year sales were 76.117, up 7.4% from last year, which was the worst in a decade.

Sharing general remarks on Brands & Models performance, based not only on volume but also comparison between potential and performance, focus2move Team quoted the Best of the Year 2013, as Brand and Model. This was the result:

Brand of Year was Toyota, market leader and able to boost market share at 44.0%, up 9.0 points from 2012. Second was Honda ranked 5th with share at 6.1%, up 3.6 points from 2012. Third was Mazda in 6th with share at 5.4%, up 3.8 points from 2012.

Model of Year was the new Toyota Camry in 3rd place with 7.7% of share, up 3.3 points from 2012. Second was Toyota Innova in 2nd with 7.9% of share, up 2.0 points from last year. Third was Toyota Fortuner in 1st place with share at 10.9%, up 2.3 from year ago.

Looking at the best brand performance:

Toyota sold 3.996 vehicles with share landed above 40% at 41.7%, up 5.8 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 33.288 with a share of 44.0%, 9.0 points of share better than last year. Toyota put 5 models in the top 5 model ranking, Fortuner, Innova, Camry, Corolla Altis and Vios.

Kia in second sold 1.135 units with a share of 11.9%, down 2.8 points of share from the previous month. Full Year sales were 8.891 with a share of 11.7%, down 22.0 points from last year. Kia best-selling model in the year was Picanto in 6th, while Forte ranked 7th, Carens 17th and Sorento 24th.

Ford in third sold 1.008 vehicles with share at 10.5%, up 0.4 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 8.166 with a share of 10.8%, up 4.0 points from 2012. Best-selling model was the Ranger in 19th while Everest was 12th and Focus 15th.

Chevrolet advanced in fourth, up 2 spots, selling 751 units with a share of 7.8%, up 2.0 points from the previous month. Full Year sales were 5.178 with 6.8% of share, flat from 2012. The top model in the year was the Spark ranked 8th while Cruze was 4th and Aveo 25th.

Honda was 5th with 710 sales and 7.4% of share, down 1.8 points from November. Full Year sales have been 4.593 with share at 6.1%, up 3.6 points from 2012. The top model was the CR-V in 9th.

Mazda in 5th sold 699 vehicles with 7.3% of share, down 0.1 points from November. Full Year Mazda was 6th with 4.089 sales and 5.4% of share, up 3.8 points from 2012. Mazda best-selling model was the "3" in 16th.
