Wescast Announces Official Opening of Facility in China

BRANTFORD, ONTARIO (Canada) - Chinese and Canadian government officials joined representatives from Wescast Industries Inc. today to officially open Wescast Industries (China) Co. Ltd., Wescast's integrated foundry and machining operation located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

"We are delighted to celebrate the opening of the new plant in China, completed on time and on budget," said Ed Frackowiak, Wescast Chairman and CEO. "With manufacturing and service capability in North America, Europe and Asia, we are now uniquely positioned to service our customer requirements for global platforms."

Among those attending the official opening were dignitaries representing the City of Wuhan and the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, along with the Consul General of Canada and representatives from the Canadian Embassy and the Government of Ontario.

The integrated foundry and machining facility was commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2007 and has been operational since the first quarter of 2008. Wescast is currently manufacturing production parts for customers in Asia and is ramping up several new programs destined for markets around the globe. The facility currently employs approximately 200 employees, which is expected to grow to 600 once full production is achieved.
