AU - Nissan aluminium casting plant axes 50 workers

Lesedauer: min

NISSAN Australia is laying off 50 workers at its Dandenong South aluminium casting plant, in response to low demand for its engines and parts.
The company had previously cut production in Japan and in the US. According to a representative, nearly all the die-cast aluminium and transmission parts produced by the aluminium plant had been exported.
With the dive in overseas production efforts, it was only a matter of time before the Australian industry was hit.
The workers had been notified of their impending redundancy in December 2008, and the company is said to be counselling them, and helping them to find new jobs.
