The 11th Powder Metallurgy Summer School of the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) will be held at the Fraunhofer Institute IFAM in Dresden, Germany, from Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, 2011. Prof. Bernd Kieback and his team from the University of Dresden will host the five-day residential event.

The EPMA summer school will consist of a range of lectures given by powder metallurgy (PM) experts drawn from both industry and academia. Topics to be covered will include the manufacture of metal powders, metal injection moulding, modelling, sintering, and hot isostatic pressing, to mention just a few. Full details are available on-line at www.epma.com/summerschool.

Summer school participants will be able to discuss and solve problems and gain hands-on experience of various PM processes in the IFAM laboratories.

Coordinated by Prof. José Torralba from the University Carlos III in Madrid and Joan Hallward from the EPMA, the PM summer school is designed for young graduate designers, engineers and scientists from disciplines such as materials science, design, engineering, manufacturing and metallurgy. On-line registration at the summer school website is now open to graduates who are under 35 and citizens of a European state.

The summer school fee of €425 covers tuition, all course materials and accommodations. The closing date for applications is March 31.
