GER - Fraunhofer IPT to name 'Toolmaker of the Year'

The award ceremony kicks off a series of lectures about toolmaking at a colloquium called "Tool and Die Making for the Future."

The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology in Aachen, Germany, and the machine tool laboratory WZL at the city's university will present their Toolmaker of the Year Award on the evening of 25 September.

The competition is sponsored by Uddeholm Tooling, Böhler Deutschland, Hasco Hasenclever and Demat, the organisers of the EuroMold trade fair, according to Fraunhofer IPT.

On the day following the award ceremony, the hosts have scheduled a series of lectures in German that will be simultaneously translated into English. Lecture subjects scheduled for the event include tool making in China, trends and developments in 5-axis HSC hard milling, the challenges organic LEDs present for tooling and production technology and liquidity management in tool and mould making.

Parallel to the lectures, an exhibition of selected companies along the supply chain of tool and die making will present products and solutions for businesses, the institute said.

Attendees will also be able to examine some of the experiments at the city's technology centre, according to the institute. "With a detailed tour of the machine shops of WZL and Fraunhofer IPT, participants at the conference are given the opportunity to visit all the relevant experimental fields of the two institutes."
