Lesedauer: min

The SMM ship tradeshow takes place September 4-7, 2012 in Hamburg, Germany. This year, KS Kolbenschmidt GmbH will be taking part for the 25th time. The company is showcasing various pistons designs ranging in diameter from 160 to 640 mm.

“Every two years, SMM in Hamburg serves as an important forum for the shipping sector. By taking part in it, we’re able to keep in touch with our international contacts without even leaving the country, and we’re also able to forge new ties, especially with engine makers”, explains Wolfgang Hartmann, head of KS Kolbenschmidt’s Large Pistons department.

Among other items, the company is displaying pistons for marine engines for all types of ships as well as ancillary generators for producing electricity on board ship, together with power plants. Also on show will be pistons for use in train engines. Among other things, visitors to KS Kolbenschmidt’s stand can view mono-block pistons made of steel, aluminum or spheroidal graphite cast iron; composite pistons made of steel and aluminum or spheroidal graphite cast iron; and articulated pistons. Specially designed for use in two-stroke engines, mono-block pistons made of gray cast iron are also on show.

Large piston from KS Kolbenschmidt are found in the main and auxiliary engines of important cruise ships such as the Allure of the Seas, as well as in container ships and freighters. The company produces pistons for power plants. Its efficient piston solutions conform to IMO II maritime exhaust standards as well as to numerous other national regulations. IMO II stipulates a significant reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions in the maritime domain; today, KS Kolbenschmidt is already working on solutions that will meet forthcoming IMO III standards and TIER 4.
