International Trade Fair Quartet GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST

profits from positive world economy

·        Markedly higher visitor numbers

·        High internationality amongst both visitors and exhibitors

·        Energy efficiency trend theme for all trade fairs

Nomen est omen: Under the motto “The Bright World of Metals” the four international technology trade fairs GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST drew to a successful close on Saturday. Over 1,700 companies, associations and research institutes presented the latest innovations in the areas of foundry technology, castings, metallurgy and thermal process engineering in Düsseldorf. The most important trend identified at all four trade fairs was energy efficiency.

This year saw more than 77,000 trade visitors from all parts of the world travel to Düsseldorf to attend the exhibition quartet – eight percent more than in 2003. Above all, the proportion of foreign visitors rose to now exceed 50 percent. An added attraction for visitors was the programme of accompanying events held in parallel with the four technology trade fairs comprising a mix of international congresses, workshops and seminars. Delighting at the excellent response Joachim Schäfer, General Manager at Messe Düsseldorf, said: “Excellent results across the board, which are not least also a reflection of the positive business climate and the clear rise in globalisation. Many visitors and exhibitors have confirmed they had an extraordinarily effective time here at the exhibition where not only with many in-depth conversations were held but also numerous investment decisions were taken and purchasing deals finalised.”

Majority of Visitors were Decision-Makers

A survey commissioned by Messe Düsseldorf showed that over two thirds of the visitors to the exhibition quartet were executives with high decision-making competence. This is reflected by the numerous orders placed during the four trade fairs. Moreover, exhibitors can expect outstanding follow-up business. “The current boom in this industry has “blessed” us with a very good exhibition that we are sure to benefit from for some time now, especially in terms of international contacts. Our attendance at METEC meant we were in the right place at the right time,” said Dieter Rosenthal, board member of SMS Demag AG and Chairman of the METEC Advisory Board.

Visitors were just as satisfied with their visit to the four trade fairs as exhibitors were with their participation. The majority of visitors polled rated the ranges exhibited as “very good” and said they had achieved their personal objectives for visiting the trade fair.

High Internationality

The trade fair quartet scored well with its extraordinarily high international attendance. Exhibitors came from 50 nations and visitors represented over 80 countries including Andorra and Cyprus. France, Italy and Austria accounted for the largest group of visitors from Europe. As for non-European visitors, Asia boasted notably higher visitor numbers than at the previous event in 2003. Ranking first here were visitors from India.

Shooting Star NEWCAST

A striking feature was the giant success of NEWCAST 2007, the International Castings Trade Fair now experiencing further strong growth after its inception in 2003. The number of exhibitors was up from 270 in 2003 to over 300 exhibitors in 2007. Likewise, the number and countries of origin of visitors who explicitly came to Düsseldorf to attend NEWCAST increased substantially. On account of this positive response and the growing pressure on exhibiting manufacturers to innovate, Messe Düsseldorf has decided to hold NEWCAST every two years in future.

The four trade fairs GIFA (International Foundry Trade Fair with WFO Technical Forum), METEC (International Metallurgical Technology Fair with Congress), THERMPROCESS (International Trade Fair and Symposium for Thermal Process Engineering) and NEWCAST (International Castings Trade Fair) were staged under the one roof, so to speak, of the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre from 12 to 16 June 2007. In 2011 the trade fair quartet will be held once again at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. Due to its new, more frequent cycle the next NEWCAST will already run from 23 to 25 June 2009.
