The First International Congress and Exhibition “Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberia-2009” was held in Krasnoyarsk International Exhibition Centre “Siberia” on September 8 – 10. Krasnoyarsk was a meeting place for the metallurgists from 18 countries of the World, as well as for prominent scientists of global and Russian science involved in the problems of development of non-ferrous industry, preservation of environmental balance and economical subsurface resources management. More than 400 visitors attended the forum during the three days.
Numerous significant events took place within the scope of the International Congress in Krasnoyarsk, such as: the 15th International Conference “Aluminium of Siberia”, the 3rd Conference “Metallurgy of non-ferrous and rare metals”, the 5th Symposium “Gold of Siberia” and commercial exhibition of equipment and technologies. It is the organizers’ opinion that the mergence of the three forums in one Congress is stipulated with the necessity to consolidate the scientific and industrial establishments with the aim of discussion of the challenges of expansion of raw stuff base, development of innovative technologies and improvement of environmental safety.
The crew of the organizers of the branch forum consisted of UC RUSAL, JSC “Krasnoyarsk Gulidov Plant of Non-Ferrous Metals”, Polyus Zoloto LLC, JSC “GMK Norilsk Nickel”, Siberian Federal University, Federal Agency for Natural Resources Management in Krasnoyarsk Territory, Institute of Chemistry and Chenical Technology SB RAS, Light Metals Ltd. and others.
Among the partners of the First International Congress and Exhibition were such companies as UC RUSAL (Russia), JSC “Sibtsvetmetniiproekt” (Russia), JSC “Krasnoyarsk Gulidov Plant of Non-Ferrous Metals”, ToxSoft Company (Russia), AREVA Transmission and Distribution (Russia), ABB Company (Switzerland). The Congress was arranged and held with support from the Authorized Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in Siberian Federal District and active contribution from the Government of Krasnoyarsk Territory and Administration of the City of Krasnoyarsk.
The participants and visitors were presented with unique possibility to obtain the most recent information about current state and trends of the market of non-ferrous metals, to become aware of the latest developments in scientific and industrial spheres, to promulgate the results of their own scientific researches, to demonstrate their products and to expand their client base. Within the scope of the Exhibition the presentations of the participating companies were held. Among them were the suppliers of analytical equipment, the companies producing refractory and thermal insulating materials, automation equipment for metallurgical processes as well as the firms presenting complete industrial circuits for mining metallurgical complex.

In the course of the Congress proceedings the participants presented 191 reports at the sections of Mineral and raw materials base of non-ferrous metals, Alumina production, Aluminium reduction technology, Production of non-ferrous and rare metals, Production of noble metals, Environment and labor protection in non-ferrous metallurgy as well as poster section.
Round table discussion was held in the scope of the Congress devoted to Prospects of development of non-ferrous metallurgy under the existing economical conditions, this discussion was headed by Prof. Tatiana Zelenskaya, Doctor of Economical Sciences, Deputy Head of the City of Krasnoyarsk – Head of Economical Department. The participants of the discussion, including representatives of the Government of Krasnoyarsk Territory, Administration of the City of Krasnoyarsk, the major companies of Russia and Krasnoyarsk Territory (UC RUSAL, JSC “GMK Norilsk Nickel”, JSC “Krasnoyarsk Gulidov Plant of Non-Ferrous Metals”, and others), as well as the representatives of scientific and educational establishments shared with their experience in the field of creation of promising routes of development of enterprises, discussed the aspects of commercial implementation of scientific and technological achievements, of forming of the strategy of the industry development with consideration of over-production, cost-efficient use of resources, strengthening of environmental requirements and adjustments of governmental economical and investment policy, and also mentioned the problems of personnel training.
The participants in the forum visited the leading enterprises of Krasnoyarsk: Aluminium Plant and Non-Ferrous Metals Plant, as well as were able to examine the most modern equipment and laboratories of SFU R&D Multi-Access Center, established for training and probation of potential experts. The visit to Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Plant included the solemn ceremony of start-up of the final dry scrubbing system. Therefore, Krasnoyarsk Aluminium Plant successfully completed the integrated environmental program of retrofitting of its facilities, its costs exceeded 300 million US dollars. At the solemn closing ceremony of the Congress and Exhibition the Chairmen of the Organizing Committee, Gennady Pashkov and Peter Polyakov, awarded Certificates of Merit and souvenirs to the participants who won in the nominations for the best section reports and the best stands : the 3rd position– Pall Eurasia Ltd. (Moscow), the 2nd position – FGUP “Mining-Chemical Works” (Zheleznogorsk), the 1st position – JSC “Sibtsvetmetniiproekt” (Krasnoyarsk), Audience Choice Award – stand of Termius (Krasnoyarsk), besides – the photo contest in the nominations: “Portrait of a Metallurgist” – Valery Bodryashkin (Russia), “Attractiveness of Metal” – Pavel Kozionov (Russia), “A Glimpse of Plant” - Fives Solios (France).
