Pakistan scrap imports down by 13pct in Jan

According to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics, Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 125,375 tonnes in January this year increasing 23.9% compared to December last year and down 13.3% YoY. The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was USD 54.4 million in January rising 16.7% compared to December last year and up 6% compared to the same month of 2012.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July 2012 January 2013 period amounted to 998,859 tonnes rising 2% on YoY basis. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was USD 394 million rising 17.3% YoY.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in January amounted to 189,930 tonnes increasing by 11.5% on YoY basis and up 46.5% compared to the previous month. The country's iron and steel imports in the July 2012 January 2013 period totaled 1 million tonnes increasing 6% YoY.
