Warsaw - Polish security officials are searching for seven lead containers holding radioactive cobalt which disappeared from a factory, a spokesman for the national nuclear agency (PAA) said Wednesday.
The containers had been discovered to be missing from a bankrupt and disused iron foundry in the east of the country during stocktaking in early November, Stanislaw Latek said.
The cobalt could endanger people's health if the containers were opened, he said.
It would also be possible to construct a 'dirty bomb' with the material, Latek added.
After an internal investigation the International Atomic Energy Agency and the European Union had been informed of the loss.
