According to statistics, Thailand imported 292,000 tonnes of scrap in May 2011, up by 5.8 times a year earlier and increased by 66% MoM from April 2011. Also, it hit the new record highs.
Among them, 136,000 tonnes were imported from the US, 82,000 tonnes were from the US in comparison of 247 tonnes in May 2010, 11,000 tonnes were from Australia, increased by 681% YoY.
The data also showed that Thailand imported 957,000 tonnes of scrap in the first five months of 2011, increased by 66.2% YoY.
Accordingly, it's estimated that the country's total scrap imports in the entire 2011 would reach 2.297 million tonnes.
