USA - Local foundry takes week off

Lesedauer: min

Employees at the Wrightsville Foundry of Donsco Inc. are off this week for the second time this year as its customers adjust inventories in the face of the economy, the company's president said Wednesday. The week off affects about 100 workers, said Art Mann Jr., president of the company which is based on North Front Street in Wrightsville. Mann said the company had full back-orders it was working on through last fall, but business dipped a bit in the beginning of this year. The company copes with slow times by operating a full operation and then shutting down for a week or so until orders build back up.

It has used the tactic in the past, before the most recent downturn, Mann said. The tactic is opposed to cutting back hours of workers.  All workers retain health benefits from the company and file for unemployment benefits while they are off, Mann said. Mann said the company is confident it can navigate through the lull.
