A <link _top>die casting <link _top>manufacturer in eastern Iowa is reaching out to some of the displaced workers at Ace Precision Castings in Marshalltown, who were recently told they would be losing their jobs.
"I did it for two reasons," said Randy Lund, president of Lund Manufacturing in Farley. "One, we are always looking for people. And two, I hate to see factory closures. The United States has lost so much manufacturing, it is alarming."
Farley is located 15 miles west of Dubuque.
Lund said he also plans to inquire with the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce about how best to reach those workers displaced by the closing.
His company would be interested in managers, supervisors and die cast operators and could hire as many as half a dozen individuals.
As many as 200 workers at the Ace plant will be laid off by the end of September, the company recently announced, as its operations move to Madison, Wis. The company has invited those employees wishing to relocate to the Madison to apply for jobs at that facility.
However, Lund thought it was important to make an offer to at least some of those individuals as well.
"Obviously, I am sure it is beneficial for many to relocate to Madison, but perhaps there are a number that would prefer to stay in Iowa," he said.
