USA - Precision Castparts division plans layoffs

Lesedauer: min

PORTLAND, Ore. - A division of Precision Castparts says it plans to cut 10% of its salaried workers.

Eileen Drake, vice president for administration and legal affairs for PCC Structurals Inc., says the Precision Castparts division has about

400 salaried workers, so about 40 of those workers would be let go.

Drake says a few hourly employees will also be laid off.

Precision Castparts Corp. is the second-largest publicly traded company based in Oregon.

It makes castings for high-tech areas that include the aerospace, defense and automotive industries.

The Oregonian newspaper reports the company does about 15% of its business with Boeing, which announced last week it would cut 4,500 jobs.
