The European Research Association for  Magnesium e.V. was founded in 1991 as a collaboration of different European Magnesium processing companies.  At that time the lightweight material Magnesium (annual tonnage of 3,600 tonnes) only played a minor role – today approximately 60,000 tones of Magnesium is used for structural components, mainly produced using the die casting process.

The concern of the European Research Association for Magnesium e.V. is the promotion of the lightweight material magnesium and its transformation into innovative, marketable developments, the implementation of research and development programs as well as a technical support of its member companies through a knowledge transfer between research institutes, universities and media. The Association serves their members as a common platform for cooperation, information exchange and training.

The EFM e.V. organizes information events, workshops and seminars in order to present the "Magnesium Know-How" to a broader audience. At this year's 17th Magnesium User- & Automotive Seminar on 16th /17th September 2009 in Stuttgart various speakers from BMW AG, Daimler AG, Porsche AG, EADS, etc. will present:

  • developments and trends in the automotive industry
  • opportunities of material lightweight  in future vehicle concepts
  • "new" Magnesium-Powertrain applications
  • Magnesium in medical technology and aviation industry
  • „novel" production processes with magnesium
  • „modern" Magnesium-sheet applications

Our well known seminar gives you the opportunity to exchange information with experts from the automotive sector, aviation and medical technology etc. and will give you the latest updates about new developments in Magnesium lightweight design, presented during the exhibition parallel to the conference.

This year’s seminar is rounded off by a visit of the "new" Porsche Museum and a "get together" in the exhibition area during the first day of the event.
