ALUMINIUM 2006 sets new records

ALUMINIUM 2006 sets new records

ALUMINIUM 2006 demonstrates top form: more than 670 exhibitors from 39 nations have registered for the World Fair and Congress from September 20th – 22nd in Essen

A higher number than ever before. Innovative solutions and the latest technological developments regarding this versatile material take centre stage during the three fair days – from the raw material to the final application. The fair focuses on the application areas Transportation, Building & Construction, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering etc.

Since the first ALUMINIUM was held in 1997, the fair has taken a steady upward course. With an exhibition surface grown to 50,000 sqm this year, ALUMINIUM offers everything to do with the innovative material of the future in seven exhibition halls. Visitor numbers almost tripled since it was first held: with more than 13,500 trade visitors from 40 nations at the previous event, ALUMINIUM is the largest specialised fair for the aluminium industry worldwide. For the key players of the industry, ALUMINIUM is a must. With the support of the partner Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie e.V. (GDA) and the European partner EAA the fair trade has become part of the aluminium world. The fact that companies from all regions of the worl d find their way to Essen is proof that ALUMINIUM has developed into a central element of the international aluminium community. Every third trade visitor now comes from abroad, a total of 79 nations are represented in Essen .

Theme pavilions

A large number of exhibitors will present their companies in national country pavilions at the fair. For the first time, a Scandinavian Pavilion will open in 2006 where visitors will find companies from Norway and Sweden . The joint stands booked by exhibitors from China , India , Bahrain and the Netherlands have again increased in size.

Apart from country pavilions, ALUMINIUM 2006 has also further extended the concept of theme pavilions. The focus here is the Casting Pavilion, which had a successful first opening at ALUMINIUM 2004. For the first time, ALUMINIUM will feature a Surface Treatment Pavilion this year to extend the pavilion concept under the motto “World of Surface“. In cooperation with VOA (Verband Oberflächenbearbeitung von Aluminium) a number of suppliers will present a range of treatment processes and design possibilities.

Congress at ALUMINIUM 2006

The ALUMINIUM Congress, organised by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Materialkunde (DGM) for the first time this year, will take place from September 21st – 22nd in the Congress Center West. Representatives of companies and research institutions will talk about their subjects in more than 100 lectures altogether, grouped in the subject blocks Aircraft, Processing, Automotive and Materials Technology.

European Aluminium Award

ALUMINIUM is a gauge for innovations. For this reason, one element of the fair is the competition held every two years to identify and award a prize for the best new development in the aluminium industry. The “European Aluminium Award“ is the leading European award for the industry and has developed into one of the highlights of the fair. The prize is awarded by initiative of the Dutch Aluminiumcenter in cooperation with EAA, GDA and the fair organisers, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland GmbH. The participation of the leading aluminium organisations in Europe reflects the strong international character of this industry as well as the wide impa ct of this award. This year it will be presented in a total of six categories, to cover the major fields of aluminium applications. For the first time, the global players Alcan, Alcoa, Hydro and Aleris will jointly sponsor the 5th European Aluminium Award.

Colani, Kleinschmidt, Merbold: Presentation of the 5th  European Aluminium Award

Top international visitors have announced their participation in the presentation of the award on September 20th. Industrial designer Colani, racing driver Jutta Kleinschmidt and astronaut Ulf Merbold will present the awards in the six categories. Again, this year’s venue for the presentation will be the ALUMINIUM Night.

Starting in 2006, there will be another event to complement ALUMINIUM. COMPOSITES EUROPE is a new trade fair for composite materials in Europe which will be held parallel to ALUMINIUM. Approximately 200 international exhibitors will present themselves in Hall 1 of Essen Fairgrounds. Together, ALUMINIUM and COMPOSITES EUROPE represent the world’s leading and most comprehensive market platform for high-tech-materials with a potential which is far from being exhausted. Running COMPOSITES EUROPE and ALUMINIUM as parallel events creates a number of synergies which will benefit visitors from the areas of construction, design and development.
