Arcelor Mittal informed press, it might sell its Belgian tin unit Ferblatil, based in Liege, which employs more than 360 people, daily La Libre Belgique reported.
Citing internal documents, one newspaper said that one solution proposed by the group for its surplus tin capacity problem would be to sell the production unit at Tilleur. It added that a decision on the unit would be reached in September.
A spokesman for the group told Agence France-Presse that the sector is facing competition from other materials such as aluminium, but said it is premature to talk about selling off units. The spokesman also refused to comment on the existence of the memo.
In addition to its Belgian plant, Arcelor Mittal has four further tin plants -- two in France and two in Spain.
