CMC Steel opens rebar plant in Mesa

Reading time: min

Phoenix Business Journal reported that CMC Steel Arizona opened a micro steel mill in Mesa on Tuesday.

The company will manufacture rebar at the site, using recycled steel as well as recycled water. The mill also will use a filtering technology to help decrease the amount of dust in the air.

The plant will use scrap metal for about 98.5% of the finished rebar. The facility will be regional, capable of serving clients within a 500 mile radius. Of the 200 jobs expected to be created, 140 already have been filled.

Mr Scott Somers Mesa City Councilman, whose district will include the facility, said that “CMC Steel fits in perfectly with the Mesa Gateway Strategic Development Plan, which has a goal to attract unique and innovative development. What can be more unique than a clean and green steel mill?”
