Design, Production Focus of Aluminum Castings Conference

This October, the American Foundry Society is hosting the year’s biggest aluminum casting conference in Nashville, Tenn., at the Sheraton Music City Hotel. The Design & Production of High Quality Aluminum Castings Conference, Oct. 5-7, tackles the trends and issues of the aluminum casting supply chain and features a keynote presentation by Geoffrey Sigworth, GKS Engineering: “Best Practices for Degassing, Grain Refinement and Eutectic Modification.” Sigworth is the author of Best Practices in Aluminum, a 296-page reference guide released in 2014, and has compiled a lifetime of experience in both the academic and practical worlds of metalcasting. He will be expounding on his research and findings at the conference. The conference also includes a tour of Nissan Assembly Plant in nearby Smyrna, Tenn.

Presentations and breakout sessions at the conference will cover:

● Engineering and design of structural components.
● Molten metal treatment and quality.
● Hydrogen, inclusion and oxide control.
● Gating, feeding and solidification.
● Casting process optimization.
● Heat treating best practices.
● Inspection and quality assurance.
● New research and alloy developments.

Conference attendees will enjoy a networking reception the evening of October 5.
