eCarTec, the leading trade fair for electric mobility, took place from October 19 to 21, 2010 at the New Munich Trade Fair Center and featured electric vehicles, storage technology as well as new developments in drive and engine technology. It also covered the topics of energy, infrastructure and financing. The trade fair also included an additional training area where professional clients end consumers were given a chance to familiarize themselves with the latest technology. The trade fair focused on developers, construction engineers, designers, managers, traders, car fleet managers, private car buyers and decision makers from politics and public authorities. MATERIALICA, the 13th international specialist trade fair for material applications, surfaces and product engineering, took place alongside eCarTec. This combination of trade fairs and the large number of representatives from the automotive industry achieved the intended synergy effect.

By carrying out a specialist trade fair that presents the latest developments and solutions in the fields of storage technology, drive and engine technology, electrics/electronics and energy management, the Munich-located trade fair organizers were able to expand the biggest marketplace for electric mobility. With 12,317 visitors, 388 exhibitors from 25 countries and some 300 participants at the specialist conferences, eCarTec 2010 was a major success. Major automobile manufacturers such as BMW, Peugeot, Mitsubishi or Renault presented their vehicles alongside energy suppliers such as E.ON, RWE, Vattenfall and EnBW who demonstrated innovative ideas related to infrastructure and charging solutions. Moreover, many other global players such as Siemens, Infineon, Panasonic, Philips, Robert Bosch, EBM-Papst, Johnson Control, Bitrode or AVL List joined this event. Robert Metzger, Managing Director and organizer of eCarTec: The active international interest in eCarTec highlights the worldwide importance of this trade fair and of electric mobility. It was not until this year that many companies discovered the great potential of electric vehicles and their technical components with the corresponding infrastructure and are now recognizing this promising market. Large joint stands from the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovenia and Austria demonstrated bundled know-how from the respective countries. The trade fair has become much more international since last year in terms of visitors and exhibitors."

And, visitors really enjoyed the eCarTec test drive: A total of 60 electric vehicles were tested on site, from Segway and electric scooters to small vehicles and sports cars. "We wanted to give visitors the opportunity to experience electric mobility and the joy of driving on site. Over 3000 test drives carried out during the three-day event and speak for themselves. The test track was definitely a major attraction ", says Robert Metzger, Managing Director at MunichExpo Veranstaltungs GmbH and organizer of eCarTec.

On the occasion of eCarTec, Munich also granted the eCarTec Award, the Bavarian State Prize for electric mobility, which includes seven categories. The prize itself was handed over by Bavarian State Minister Martin Zeil at a festive ceremony held on October 19, 2010 (see separate press information dated October 20, 2010).

"For us, eCarTec has become an excellent opportunity for communicating our commitment to electric mobility. It also gives us the chance to speak with experts and with an audience that is interested in the various topics. We were very surprised about the high level of response to our trade fair appearance and the incredible interest of the media in this event", says Oliver Gschwandtner from BMW AG. "Overall, eCarTec was a major success. We had interesting discussions with experts, suppliers and energy providers. It was worthwhile being an exhibitor on site", says Knut Rieger from Peugeot Deutschland. Kai Schönenberg from e-Wolf GmbH: "eCarTec is a trade fair featuring a top-notch audience with a clear interest in buying. At eCarTec, the B2B market shows us what consumers are looking for." "The success story of eCarTec 2010 is based on the good combination of interesting technical discussions and the large percentage of representatives ", says Andrea Seidl from Vattenfall. Andreas Zelles from E.ON AG: "We enjoyed being an eCarTec exhibitor because this is where we can meet professional and well-informed discussion partners. The percentage of visitors was very high, we are really looking forward to eCarTec 2011."

Important dates: eCarTec 2011 will take place from October 18 through 20 at the New Munich Trade Fair and will again be held alongside MATERIALICA, the specialist trade fair for lightweight design.
