The VW Group honored its best suppliers with the "Volkswagen Group Award 2019" for the 17th time at the Porsche Visitor Center in Leipzig on July 4th 2019. More than 200 guests from 19 countries came to this year's awards ceremony. Of more than 40,000 suppliers worldwide, 130 participated in the awards ceremony, eight of which received the Group Award in one of six categories.
Among the winners is the Eisenwerk Brühl (EB), which received the award in the category "Performance Champion Local". The award recognizes the extraordinary achievement in 2018, when Brühl Iron Works brought a new engine to series maturity in a very short time and massively expanded its capacities. This allowed VW to compensate for impending delivery bottlenecks and avoid a market collapse.
"We are incredibly proud of this award, which is due to the entire team. Last year's campaign showed the outstanding achievements we can make at the EB if all employees, from the simple worker to the management, are committed to a common goal. Despite the considerable effort and the immense workload, the whole team - even in close cooperation with their colleagues from VW - had a lot of fun together to be successful, "explains Matthias Pampus-Meder, Managing Director of Technology / Sales at Eisenwerk Brühl GmbH.
For more than 90 years, Eisenwerk Brühl has been regarded as a leading automotive supplier of highly complex cast iron components for current and future engine generations. The company mainly develops and produces weight-optimized cylinder crankcases in mass production for the passenger car industry. In addition, the product portfolio includes components for use in commercial vehicles, agricultural and construction machinery.
With currently 1,500 employees, more than 200,000 tons of iron are processed annually, which corresponds to a capacity of> 4.5 million cylinder crankcases. The company is still family-owned by the descendants of company founder Georg Sandmann.
