euroLITE – the meeting point for the lightweight construction industry generates strong interest among exhibitors

Karlsruhe/Salzburg - As the only specialist trade fair in Europe, euroLITE focuses on the entire spectrum of development and simulation tools, materials and production technologies for lightweight construction. It's a concept which has aroused great interest among the suppliers of these products and solutions. The 2nd euroLITE, which will be taking place in Salzburg (Austria) from 24 to 26 June 2008, has attracted numerous renowned companies which were not represented at the first event. 110 percent of the previous year's exhibition area has already been filled. In the "Joins and Connections" and "Surface Technology" theme parks, euroLITE concentrates on areas which represent major challenges in lightweight construction. The three-day lightweight construction forum by the Landshut Lightweight Construction Cluster, with contributions from the fields of construction, materials and manufacturing technologies, will be held in German and English with simultaneous translation.

Reducing carbon dioxide emissions, saving resources, increasing cost-effectiveness and performance are the driving forces for innovative lightweight designs – in automotive construction, rail transport, aerospace, boat and yacht construction as well as mechanical engineering. With its concept tailored carefully and consistently to the lightweight construction process chain, euroLITE is the ideal presentation and information platform. And word seems to have spread in the industry, as numerous companies which did not take part in the first euroLITE, such as Bayer Material Science, Otto Fuchs, PEAK, SAG, SECAR Technologie, Teijin Aramid and ThyssenKrupp Metallcenter, have booked a stand for the second euroLITE international specialist trade fair for lightweight design, which will be held from June 24 to June 26, 2008. Many original exhibitors, including Alcan Composites, AMAG, ARC Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen, Carbo Tech Composites, EJOT, Fronius, Landshut Lightweight Construction Cluster, Leightweight Structures, Metawell, Simulia and Voestalpine have already registered five months before the start of the trade fair. "The positive response is due to the fact that euroLITE 2008 is set to be twice as big as the first event", says Claus Hähnel, Executive Director of H & K Messe GmbH which organises the lightweight construction trade fair together with the Salzburg Exhibition Centre.

Entire lightweight construction process chain for a wide range of applications
In addition to the very broad spectrum of materials for lightweight construction, the exhibitors' offering covers tools for construction and simulation, prototype and model building, manufacturing technologies, serial production of lightweight components, bonding and connection technologies, surface treatment, and systems and processes for component tests, services and research.

This extensive and representative offering makes euroLITE a unique presentation, information and procurement platform across Europe, which enables design engineers, development engineers, designers, production managers and purchasers, as well as decision-makers from management, to make contacts in a targeted and efficient manner.

"Joins and Connections" and "Surface Technology" theme parks
In the automotive industry in particular, adhesive technology is increasingly replacing the more conventional joining and connection methods. The growing significance is due in part to the increased use of lightweight construction materials for the purpose of saving weight. But the safety of vehicles – key words here are crash resistance and rigidity – also plays an important role. Adhesive technologies are therefore also part of the euroLITE theme park "Joins and Connections". However, this special presentation will also focus on the joining and connection technologies of pressing and force fitting, joining through metal forming, welding, soldering and joining with connecting elements for lightweight construction.

Innovative lightweight designs often consist of multiple material combinations. Avoiding contact corrosion between the materials is therefore an important aspect, which means that new processes and systems for coating are required for lightweight construction. These will be presented in the euroLITE theme park "Surface Technology".

euroLITE with bilingual lightweight construction forum
Alongside euroLITE 2008, the Landshut Lightweight Construction Cluster is organising a three-day lightweight construction forum. The presentations in German and English will mainly focus on new developments and current trends in the fields of design, materials and production technologies for lightweight construction. Each of the contributions will be simultaneously translated into the other language.
