GER - New Audi A4 to be a 'revolutionary mix'

Reading time: min

AUDI'S new A4 will use a revolutionary mix of aluminium and steel, according to reports.

The MLB-Evo architecture, as it is called, has been developed over five years, Autocar says.

It uses a mix of aluminium, steel, and, ultimately, lightweight composite materials that are joined by rivets, screws and super-strength adhesives.

It is reported that the compact executive A4 will use high-strength steels for the sills, body pillars and crash structures in the front.

Parts of the engine bay will be made from aluminium castings and extrusions, while aluminium is also expected to be used for the roof panel, bonnet and front wings.

The new A4 is expected to go on sale late next year or early 2016.
