Bratislava based plant Volkswagen Slovakia had commenced construction of a press shop on October 25th 2011. The EUR 90 million investment will create 100 jobs.
Mr Andreas Tostmann chairman of Volkswagen Slovakia said that "The press shop is an important milestone on our path to growth. Production will intensify and it will also have a positive impact on the circulation time for materials and logistics processes."
Production of pressed parts is slated to start in late 2013, with daily output projected to be 19,000 parts.
According to the head of the press shop, Mr Dietmar Neels, VW Slovakia has just started recruiting new staff, skilled toolmakers and servicemen with five years' professional experience and education in the engineering or electro technical fields. The facility will have one of the best presses in central and Eastern Europe, and will process steel and aluminum sheets into car body panels, bonnets, roofs, bumpers and doors.
