IN - RINL contract workers on strike

Reading time: min

More than 22,000 contract workers in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant went on strike from Tuesday, demanding a wage hike of INR 1,000 a month and the Centre for Indian Trade Unions is supporting their strike, according to a press release issued by the union.

The CITU said the Union Steel Minister, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan had announced last year itself that there would be a hike of INR 1,000 a month and that the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd management had not acted on the promise of the minister.

The workers had sent several reminders to the management and at last served a strike notice earlier this month. In view of the indifferent attitude” of the RINL management, the workers had no option but to go on strike from Tuesday, the union added. The union urged the RINL management to respond promptly to the just demand of the contract workers, according to press release issued by Mr A Sarma, President.
