Japanese April steel product orders up by 19% MoM

According to the statistics provided by the Japan Iron & Steel Association, the steel products orders booked by the domestic steel consuming sectors in April 2009 amounted 5.042 million tonnes, up by 19.1% MoM as compared to March 2009 and down by 33% YoY.

Accordingly, total domestic consumption reached 2.783 million tonnes, up by 4.8% MoM and down by 42.5% YoY, meanwhile, exports totaled 1.762 million tonnes, up by 40.7% MoM and down by 34.6% YoY In April 2009, steel products orders booked by the construction sector in Japan decreased by 0.2% MoM to 764,000 tonnes, while the YoY decrease was 35.8%.

Meanwhile, steel product orders booked by the automotive sector reached 452,000 tonnes, up by 32.2% MoM and down by 55.1% YoY, while Japan’s shipbuilding industry booked 452,000 tonnes of steel products during the period in question, down by 5.1% MoM and 3.5% YoY.
