Its been over a year that Yamaha had revealed plans of setting-up a new plant in Pakistan. Now, more information has surfaced in this regard. Japanese two wheeler maker, Yamaha has chosen Karachi to setup a new plant at an investment of $150 million (PKR 1,441 crores or INR 903 crores).
This new plant will provide employment to a total of 25,000 engineers, technicians and labourers. Yamaha Motor has acquired a 50 acre plot at Bin Qasim near Karachi for the manufacturing unit on a 2000 acre land earmarked by the Government for the establishment of Japan Special Economic Zone across the National Highway and with all necessary infrastructure facilities being provided for its effective establishment reveals Tribune.
In neighbouring country India, Yamaha Motors have set a new sales target for the year 2015. Aiming to reach a total of 1 million units by 2015 the company will be focusing on scooters which at present form a total of 22% of the total industry reveals The Telegraph.
Yamaha Motors India Sales Pvt Ltd registered a 34% growth in the past year. The company sold a total of 651,487 units in 2013 as against 486,810 units in 2012. In India, the company has sold 61,239 units in March this year as compared to 50,473 units in March 2013 spurred on by greater demand for scooters and an increased number of woman riders in the country. Its scooter products include the Ray, RayZ and Alpha while the company plans on adding more models to their existing lineup in the future.
