LOI Thermprocess GmbH - New order from Aluminium Norf

Aluminium Norf orders Twin-Chamber Melting Furnace (TCF) from LOI Italimpianti

Reading time: min

Aluminium Norf GmbH, Neuss, the world's largest aluminium rolling mill, continues to invest in highly advanced aluminium recycling equipment. In 2008, Alunorf selected LOI Thermprocess recycling technology for the key component of its new recycling centre. Now the company has placed a contract with LOI Thermprocess, a Tenova LOI Italimpianti Group company, for a further TCF twin-chamber melting furnace for stage two of the recycling centre.

The new recycling system is to be designed for a daily throughput of 150 tonnes of liquid metal, which will be produced entirely from aluminium scrap.

Different types of aluminium scrap are to be melted and the liquid metal produced will be processed to form new rolling bars.

Plant technology from LOI Thermprocess was selected by Alunorf because of its outstanding performance and its environmentally compatible, energy-efficient mode of operation.

Contaminated scrap can be melted without pre-treatment. The integrated waste gas treatment system ensures that pollutants are combusted safely and efficiently. The recycling furnace is to be equipped with a regenerator system allowing highly efficient waste heat recovery from the furnace flue gas. The reduction in the flue gas flow rate and temperature cuts the capital cost of the filter system. In addition, the LOI regenerator system cools the flue gas rapidly, improving the environmental compatibility of the plant.

Trial operation of the extended Alunorf recycling centre is due to start in the autumn of 2011.

TCF recycling furnaces from LOI Thermprocess are used successfully throughout the world and currently produce a total of about 2,000 tonnes of liquid metal per day.
