Ms Atchaka said that the model to be produced in Thailand would use a new platform developed by Mitsubishi Motors in Japan, with a 1.3 liter petrol engine. The company will meet the BoI's condition to produce at least 100,000 units per year of the small, fuel efficient and environmentally friendly cars.

Ms Atchaka quoted the Japanese executives as saying that the company was willing to consider building a new plant eco car demand in the future was strong.

It may be noted that Mitsubishi Motors was among 6 automakers receiving BoI approval to produce eco cars in Thailand. Nissan is the first to actually make its eco car, called the March.
