Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberia-2010 International Congress and Exhibition was held in Krasnoyarsk on September 2 - 4. The event took place for the second time, its origination was in the previous year when three international forums were combined after 16 years of their separate existence: Aluminium of Siberia Conference and Exhibition, Gold of Siberia Conference, and Metallurgy of Non-Ferrous and Rare Metals Conference. The Congress was actively supported by the Government of Krasnoyarsk Territory,  Administration of the City of Krasnoyarsk, as well as by Russian Foundation of Fundamental Researches and Krasnoyarsk Territorial Foundation for Support of Scientific and R&D activities.

 

More than 150 companies from 20 countries of the World participated in the Congress, including the largest Russian and Western enterprises: OK RUSAL, Polyus, GMK Norilsk Nickel, Krasnoyarsk Plant of Non-Ferrous Metals, Volzhsk Plant of Abrasives, ToxSoft Company, Krasnoyarsk Metallurgical Plant, Novoangarsk Mining and Beneficiation Complex, Skamol Rus, EKATO Rus, Henkon Siberia, South-Verkhoyansk Mining Company, ABB AB, ALCOA Inc., ALSTOM GRID, Outotec GmbH, Simonsen AS, MID-Mountain Materials Inc., Latham Inc., Buss AG and others, as well as leading Russian universities and R&D institutes. More than 500 persons participated in the forum for its 3 days of proceedings.

 

Krasnoyarsk Territory is a place of intensive development of non-ferrous metallurgy. New ore deposits are explored here, the industry is being developed and retrofitted, investments are attracted into the development of non-ferrous metallurgy. Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberia-2010 was a site where experts discussed the problems of application of innovative scientific projects, technologies, and materials of the industrial branch, and studied experience of colleagues.

 

In addition to traditional excursions to main non-ferrous enterprises of the City of Krasnoyarsk and Territory (Aluminium Plant and Plant of Non-Ferrous Metals), for the first time the participants in the Congress had the opportunity to visit Khakas Aluminium Plant (City of Sayanogorsk). This plant, the pride of OK RUSAL, is equipped with powerful electrolysis cells and is among the top ten plants of the World with the highest labor intensity. Moreover, this plant meet the requirements of international environmental standards.

 

Within the scope of a section of the Congress there was the presentation of SET Consortium, Siberian Engineering Technologies, founded under the auspices of Sibtsvetmetproekt Institute. The consortium joined together the R&D initiates and constructing-assembling companies of Siberia.

The amalgamation was created for designing of Kyzyl-Tashtyg mining and beneficiation complex in Tuva and Ozerny mining and beneficiation complex in Buryatia, and later on its activities will cover designing of other enterprises, including exploration of mineral deposits of Krasnoyarsk Territory. Such amalgamation creates favorable background for attraction of investments to the Territory, and is the basis of creation of new work places.

 

Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberia-2010 Congress and the associated commercial exhibition is not only a site for exchange with experience on implementation of innovations, searching for approaches to modernization, meeting of scientific and industrial concerns. This forum is also an important link in the program of training of young specialists. Thus, within the scope of the Congress there was held the round-table discussion titled Stuff training for mining and beneficiation complex, with participation of O. N. Nikitina, Deputy Minister of education and science of Krasnoyarsk Territory, this discussion was chaired by V. I. Kolmakov, Primary Prorector for academic activities of Siberian Federal University. This discussion was devoted to the issues of reconsideration of conventional approaches to engineers’ training, as well as to the variants of interaction between universities and companies of mining and beneficiation industry at the final stage of training. Besides, the ways of enhancement of prestige of engineering specialties among young people were examined.

 

No doubts, that one of the most important events of the Congress was the round-table discussion titled Policy of the government of Krasnoyarsk Territory within the field of encouragement of innovations, headed by V. B. Osipenko, Deputy Minister of economics and regional development of Krasnoyarsk Territory The meeting was devoted to the discussion of issues of power saving, industrial and environmental safety at mining and beneficiation complexes, as well as the principles of interaction between minor- and medium-sized companies, educational universities and key mining-metallurgical and beneficiation  enterprises, including the role of the government of Krasnoyarsk Territory in this interaction.

 

According to collective opinion of the participants, the Congress was a success. Aiming at further improvement of the Congress and at arrangement of more significant international site for revision of R^D achievements, the organizers of the forum invite all concerned persons to participate in Non-Ferrous metals of Siberia-2011, the 3rd International Congress and Exhibition, that will be held in “Siberia” International Exhibition-Business Center, Krasnoyarsk, on September 7 - 9, 2011.
