PL - Nexteer Automotive to build plant in southern Poland

Reading time: min

The Nexteer Automotive corporation will build an electric power steering system (EPS) plant in Tychy, south Poland, the company informed local press on Friday.

Construction on the new plant will be launched in the second half of this year, according to the company.

The new plant is part of the company's plan to expand production on EPS systems, which are increasingly popular with major car manufacturers.

The plant will be located next to an earlier Nexteer plant which was opened in 1997 and construction should be completed at the end of 2015 or early 2016.

Nexteer officials said the choice of Tychy as the plant's site was mainly connected with the city's location in the Katowice Special Economic Zone and the high reputation enjoyed by Polish-produced Nexteer products.

Nexteer Automotive is a global steering system manufacturer with 20 plants in North and South America, Asia and Europe. Among the company's customers are GM, Fiat, Ford, Toyota, Chrysler, PSA Peugeot Citroen and producers in India and China.

Nexteer's Polish plants in Tychy and Gliwice jointly employ over 1,150 people and belong to the company's biggest producers, with an annual output of 3 million steering systems.
