Reis Robotics - Removal and Spray Robots - Perfect Teamwork

Advantage: Reduced cycle times

Reading time: min

REIS GMBH & CO KG MASCHINENFABRIK at "GIFA 2011" presented the linked control for removal and spray robots in die casting automation. The direct communication of both controls in one control cabinet reduces cycle time and optimizes travel paths. At the same time the hardware and installation costs are reduced.

"Reis proves again that constant innovation is possible even in the die casting automation industry", says Rudolf Brand, sales manager for foundry applications at Reis. "At GIFA 2011 we show how further cycle time reductions are possible by combining the controls for the removal robot and the 2-axes spray robot. This is a decisive advantage for companies operating in the highly competitive market of die casting production."

Reis integrates its systems even more. The controls of the removal robot and the spray robot now are together in one control cabinet in die casting cells.

The outstanding advantage is the possibility of further cycle time optimization. Both robots can be working in the die area of the die casting machine at the same time, mutually monitoring their work envelopes to safely prevent collisions. If space in the cell at certain positions is too narrow for simultaneous working, cycle time saving is achieved nevertheless, because the robots are approaching defined pre-positions to shorten the work paths after release.

With this solution, Reis integrates a second CPU for the spray robot, as well as a second Safety-Controller within the removal robot's control cabinet. This not only results in a positional advantage for arrangement of the cabinet; the installation also becomes more favorable in price on the hardware side, because power supply, portable teach pendant, and all supply lines only need be supplied once. The portable teach pendant is simply switched over for operation of the spray robot when required.
