Russian steel industry looks to the future with confidence

The trade fairs Metallurgy-Litmash, Aluminium Non-Ferrous and Tube Russia 2010 set the course for positive development with good registration figures/first confirmations for wire Russia 2011 already received.

Russian companies in the steel industry are forging ambitious plans for the future – in spite of considerable economic difficulties. It may be slower than predicted two years ago, but business is picking up again in Russia. The innovations that the companies need for recovery will be on display at the trade fairs Metallurgy-Litmash, Aluminium Non-Ferrous and Tube Russia 2010 in Moscow – which have become firmly established as the leading events in the industry since they first took place in 2001. It comes as no surprise that well known international companies want to have a stronger presence here and that some 250 have already registered for the next fair, and the first registrations have even already been received for wire Russia 2011.

The fair, from 24 – 27 May 2010, will feature official national presentations from Germany, Italy, Austria and China as well as exhibitors from 25 other countries including Bulgaria, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Poland, Sweden, South Korea and, of course Russia, Belarus and the Ukraine. However, it is not just companies that will be lending their support to the fairs, but also the leading international associations in the industry – for instance the ITA (International Tube Association), EUnited Metallurgy (European Metallurgical Equipment Association), CECOF (European Committee of Industrial Furnace and Heating Equipment Association), CEMAFON (European Foundry Equipment Suppliers Association) and the VDMA (German Engineering Federation). These fairs have thus become firmly established as the most important platform for Russia and its neighbouring countries.

The facts and figures are encouraging: Due to recently initiated governmental funding programmes, Russia is seen by experts in the industry as one of the world’s leading regions of economic growth. What is needed is top quality international know-how to bring the plants, which are in urgent need of modernisation, up to date and to purchase new machinery and equipment. Experts estimate that the Russian metallurgy industry will invest over €3.4bn p.a. in the two years ahead. In addition to this, the production volume is expected to grow significantly, which will boost the international role of the metallurgy market. Moderate state loans and officially mandated transparency with respect to energy efficiency will contribute towards western products and services finding qualified business partners who are interested in buying and have a lot of catching up to do. Exhibiting at these fairs will give these vendors the ideal opportunity to present their products as well as to make new contacts with business partners – in conditions that have already been praised by both exhibitors and trade associations following past fairs.

Metallurgy-Litmash, Tube Russia and Aluminium/Non-Ferrous will take place simultaneously from 24 – 27 May 2010 at Moscow’s exhibition centre “Krasnaja Presnja”. The next wire Russia is scheduled to take place from 23 – 26 May 2011, which will be accompanied once again by Metallurgy-Litmash, Aluminium Non-Ferrous and Tube Russia.
