Transport systems for liquid metals / N series
This new series was designed for transporting the maximum volume of liquid metal with small manoeuvrable fork-lift trucks.
• The device exhibited at the EUROGUSS 2006 is attached to a 1.8 t fork-lift truck
for transporting 500 kg aluminium.
• Lateral swivelling range of 120°
• Safe transport even on extremely narrow travel ways
• Enables pouring in extremely difficult situations
• Quick-change systems for fast removal of add-on units
Schenk will be exhibiting the proven Somatec chucking systems.

Highest economic efficiency with the new N series.
Schenk Werkzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG looks back upon its 70-year history. The certified company supplies special-purpose machines, clamping fixtures, and precision components, among other things, to automotive suppliers, and producers of processing centres in many other industrial sectors at home and abroad. At the EUROGUSS in Nuremberg, for the first time Schenk will be presenting the N series transport systems for liquid metal. This new series is designed for transporting the maximum volume of liquid metal with small manoeuvrable fork-lift trucks.
Because of its extremely high transport volume, using smaller fork-lift trucks, the new N series achieves a high degree of economic efficiency. The device exhibited at the EUROGUSS is attached to a 1.8 t fork-lift truck for transporting 500 kg aluminium. This newly developed device with its 120_ lateral swivelling range, however, can also be used attached to a 1.6 t three-wheel fork-lift truck. This combination allows safe transport even on extremely narrow travel ways and enables pouring in extremely difficult situations. All measures and dimensions were coordinated in close consultation with Still as supplier of fork-lift trucks.
The higher transport weight enables the operation to be streamlined because of the device’s high manoeuvrability and despite the low investment cost. An optimal quick-change system ensures that the add-on unit can be removed in a time-saving manner, should the fork-lift truck be assigned for other uses.
Apart from its high flexibility, the device distinguishes itself through its large lateral range of operation and the transport container’s good accessibility from the top. Simply uncoupling the container seat effects the container change. For safe transport the container is secured with locking screws and optionally with a hydraulically operated locking device. The system also provides for electrical positioning polling.
A covered transport container may be used, in order to minimise temperature losses and as protection against spills. The container cover can be opened manually or by means of an additional hydraulic cycle. The cover design has a sufficiently large opening for intermediate treatment or for removing slag.
Furthermore, at the EUROGUSS Schenk will exhibit the proven Somatec chucking systems. In recent years, Schenk took over the entire Somatec program, including registered utility models and protective rights. Having been in the market for the past twenty-five years, apart from its high repeat accuracy in terms of design, this chucking system especially distinguishes itself because of its compact small and modular design. The clearly reduced set-up time of this modular design thus offers considerable savings potentials.
