Serbia and Croatia signed memorandum for joint reconstruction of the Belgrade-Zagreb railway line. The memorandum was signed today in the capital of Serbia by Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic and Croatia’s Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic.
The line has length of 412 km and after the reconstruction the train trip on it will be reduced from the current seven and a half hours to just over three hours. The plan envisages the line to be a train speed of 160 km/h.
It is planned that this year the preparation of the design and technical documentation will be carried out and the work should begin in 2019.
For the reconstruction of the Serbian territory, about 250 million EUR are needed, and a little more on the territory of Croatia.
The both ministers attending to the ceremony underlined the importance of Corridor X, which is part of the European infrastructure map. The project would cost billions of euro for the countries, but more than 85% from the funding can be covered through EU schemes.
