After the announcement by the U.S. CMC firm on Friday, the steel plant in Sisak will either be closed or sold. The Economy Minister Djuro Popijač met with representatives from the steel-plant union on Monday December 19th 2012.
Although the 1130 workers at the steel mill did not show up to work, the Minister believes in the survival of the steel mill.
Minsiter is Committed to Maintaining the Plant
The minister arranged a meeting to discuss plans with the leadership of the Board of Sisak steel mill. "We will do everything possible to prevent the loss of jobs and secure the continuation of production. And I believe that in addition to CMC, many other companies are interested in the steel industry program of the Sisak steel mill," said the minister.
