UK - Sarginsons completes investment programme

Reading time: min

The Coventry based precision aluminium diecaster, Sarginsons, has completed its £2.5m investment in equipment to meet ever increasing market demand.

Sarginson’s investment included stripping out 23 older furnaces and replacing them with 12 new furnaces to complete a total rebuild of the company’s entire melting infrastructure.

The new furnaces, four BT1300 Melters and eight 500Kg holding furnaces, supplied and commissioned by Ramsell-Naber, will provide a range of benefits to the business and to its customers. They will be used to manufacture Sarginsons new Aston Martin prototypes and Jaguar F-Type series production. But they still have spare capacity, the furnaces are only loaded to 40% at present.

Anthony Evans, Sarginsons, managing director, said: “This latest investment in the company is just the next phase of a much wider programme of innovation to meet our target in creating a low pressure diecasting centre of excellence.”

He pointed out that the company’s close working relationship with Brunel University’s Advanced Metal Casting Centre will enable staff to work closely with academics as they strive to push the boundaries in developing light weight automotive structures and in the creation of ever stronger alloys.

“This all goes hand-in-hand with our philosophy of embracing innovation so that we can deliver the technical excellence required by our customers,” he added.

The new furnaces have improved control features which will not only lead to better energy efficiency, but most importantly, will enable tighter control of metal quality and manufacturing efficiencies improving the already high quality standards set within the company’s ISO 9001 & TS16949 standard.

They will also deliver significant improvements in the company’s carbon footprint, with a minimum 40% reduction in CO2 emissions.

As part of Sarginsons wider environmental drive, the company said it is looking to achieve its ISO14001 accreditation in early 2015.
