USA - GM Names New Plant Manager In Massena

General Motors has named a 38 year veteran of the company as the new plant manager at GM’s Massena facility. Joseph A. Smith replaced Scott Wisniewski, who has returned to GM Powertrain’s Saginaw, Michigan, Metal Castings Operations. Smith began his career with GM at the Saginaw Malleable Iron (SMI) plant in 1975. He held positions in manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance while at SMI. He was transferred to GM’s Danville, Illinois, foundry in 1985 and was promoted to manufacturing superintendent in 1989. Smith returned to SMI in 1994 as quality systems manager. In 1995, he was assigned as manufacturing superintendent. He was named operations manager at SMI in 2002. Smith was transferred to GM Powertrain’s Defiance, Ohio, plant in 2005. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering from Kettering University and a MBA from Eastern Illinois University.
