New in 2014: Special Prize for Young Engineers & Public Prize for Design & Lifestyle.

Whether it is in transport, building, construction, mechanical and electrical engineering or in the consumer goods industry: aluminium is the starting point for many new product developments. Production and processing of the material is also in constant development. Every two years, these innovations are rewarded with the EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM AWARD. 2014 is no exception: starting now, the Aluminium Centrum (Netherlands) in cooperation with the EAA European Aluminium Association, the GDA Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie and the ALUMINIUM 2014 World Fair will again be looking for products and projects using aluminium in an innovative manner. 
6 Awards for Industrial & Consumer products

The EUROPEAN ALUMINIUM AWARD “Industrial Design & Engineering” will already be presented for the nineth time for innovations in the Industrial und Consumer Products segments. In total 6 awards are at stake. Both end-products and components may apply in the different categories

 - Design & Lifestyle
 - Lighting & Interior
 - Building & Architecture
 - Aerospace & Automotive
 - Marine & Offshore
 - Production Techniques, Tools & Machinery

The applications of aluminium in the fields of “Aerospace & Automotive”, “Building & Architecture“, “Marine & Offshore” as well as “Production Techniques, Tools & Machinery” looks mainly for aluminium components that have a positive influence on the final product but also end-products are very welcome to apply. In the  “Design & Lifestyle” and “Lighting & Interior” categories, on the other hand, the jury expects to judge mainly end-products for their innovative and design aspects.

An OVERALL JURY PRIZE will be given for the overall entry with the most striking contribution to “Aluminium for Future Generations”.

NEW There will be a 'public prize' to be chosen through internet/social media for the Design & Lifestyle category.
2 Special Prizes for Young Talents

After it premiered at ALUMINIUM four years ago, in 2014 the “Young Designers” prize will be awarded for the third time. This is where students and designers under the age of 30 present creative ideas and new approaches to solutions. The objective is to support young talents. In line with this, for the first time, this year the jury also will award “Young Engineers”.

To honour motivated students, graduates and young professionals under 30 years of age for their creative IDEAS and new solutions concerning aluminium in Science-Technology-Environment and Mathematics (STEM). Students and Young Engineers born on or after 1 January 1984 may apply.
Independent Jury

The independent international jury comprising representatives from the fields of science, design and media and chaired by Prof. Laurens Katgerman of Delft Technical University will select the winners. Its Deputy Chairman will be Vito Oražem, Managing Director of the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. All judged products and projects will be exhibited at ALUMINIUM 2014 in Düsseldorf in October, the award presentation ceremony will be held on 7 October during the festive “ALUMINIUM Night” evening event.

About ALUMINIUM 2014

At the world’s biggest industry meeting place, aluminium manufacturers, processors, suppliers of technologies and equipment for the manufacture, processing and finishing of aluminium, as well as the representatives of the application industries come together from 7 to 9 October. The trade fair, which will be held in Düsseldorf for the second time in 2014, showcases the entire aluminium process chain from the raw material to semi-finished products to finished products for all areas of application of aluminium. Approximately 950 exhibitors and over 20.000 visitors are expected. ALUMINIUM is organised by Reed Exhibitions in cooperation with the GDA Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie and the European Aluminium Association (EAA).
