Vermont Castings is adding 62 new jobs to its production line. Good news - considering the company laid off its work force of 162 people for 12 weeks earlier this year. The job growth makes them eligible for nearly a half million dollars from the state's employment growth incentive program.
Vermont Castings will use the funding to add a new enamelling process. That will allow it to produce a new line of appliances in Vermont instead of at its parent-company's plant in Kentucky.
"As Kentucky expanded, there was an opportunity to either keep the steel stove production there or consolidate it with stove production in Vermont," explained Dale Trombley, the General Manager of Vermont Castings. "The grant the state of Vermont was able to offer to us was the deciding factor that said yep, move that production up here."
