No two foundries are alike

No two foundries are exactly the same, of course we have different processes and materials and locations all over the world and therefore very different production conditions, training, industrial policy, energy policy and customer requirements. What unites the foundry industry worldwide, however, is tradition and the pointed question of how and where casting will continue in the future.

While the European energy and climate policy is preparing to set the pace for development and climate protection and thus inevitably puts the companies under pressure to meet the required demands, other regions of the world are not in such a hurry.

To put it bluntly, in a time of noticeable and visible climate change to the detriment of entire regions and their inhabitants, we cannot be indifferent to climate protection. This also concerns the foundries, which are setting good examples and ambitious goals in Europe, especially in Germany.

Nevertheless, competition seems to be shifting to regions where energy is cheaper or the production conditions are easier and the targets are not as strict as in the European Union. The climate does not stop at borders and should certainly be seen as a holistic challenges all considerations of industrial relocation should be rejected.

It is up to industry associations all over the world to take up the challenge of climate protection at all levels and also to protect the foundry industry as a whole. The original interests of a key industry such as the foundry industry are on a par with climate protection. Let’s rely on digitalisation and the consensus of the leading industrial nations to advance production and climate protection in an appropriate, technology-open and consistent manner.

If the Europeans want to lead the way as protagonists, go ahead, but keep an eye on your own companies and observe the competitive conditions and set incentives that make it possible for everyone to follow the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Global Casting Magazine - December 2020 Issue

Looking forward to a better 2021 for the foundry industry

2020 is an unusual year as the COVID-19 pandemic is spreading around the world; even now there is no sign of alleviation. Normal work and life has been influenced significantly so that the established plans have been forced to be postponed or canceled.

The development of foundry industry is also affected, and the industrial chain and supply chain are also in uncertainty.

Now, it is time to think about how the global foundry industry will develop in the post-pandemic era. Whether you accept it or not, the pandemic has profoundly changed the way people socialize. In the case of restricted international travel, virtual negotiations and exhibitions have become the main ways to promote international communications.

As a Chinese-English bilingual e-magazine with worldwide readers, Global Casting Magazine is undoubtedly the best carrier for global foundrymen to understand industry trends and grasp development opportunities.

At the end of 2020, all of us are expecting a better new year. I wish the foundry industry will develop healthier and sustainable methods, and wish all our foundrymen keep safe, healthy and happy! ■

It‘s good that 2020 is coming to an end, and that relief is emerging on the horizon. Alongside COVID-19 and other upheavals and crises in the industry, this was anything but a normal financial year.

The foundry industry, always an early indicator of the overall economic development, has not been spared and it is painful that we have to do without a traditional trade fair event like the Ankiros in Istanbul.

Nevertheless, production continues worldwide and most companies are holding on.

A Euroguss year has the great advantage that it shows the trend for the light metal, die-casting and gravity die casting industry in January and still opens up options throughout the year.

EUROGUSS 2020 is the right choice for the top representatives of industry and participants from the entire value chain!

In Nuremberg, exhibitors and visitors meet in an environment conducive to development, where they can face the ambitious challenges brought on by the winds of change, and present their own skills and strengths. „If you don‘t want to change anything, you will lose everything“ (Gustav Heinemann) Yes, there are likely to be some changes in the casting industry, regardless of whether we like e EU‘s “Green Deal” or any of the other current developments.

Our industry seems to be well advised to face the changing challenges with intelligence, experience, courage and foresight. New mobility concepts, open technology drives, communication technology, artificial intelligence, medical technology, aerospace and environmental technology – they will continue to offer a wide range of opportunities for light metal casting in addition to automotive production.

The fact that the industry is capable of this and has a significant share in the implementation of highly complex products in networked processes, is demonstrated by the development of the giant die casting cells for structural castings or the increasing use of additive manufacturing. The foundry industry and its suppliers will accept changes and at the same time may request the support of politicians, OEMs, associations and unions.

Foundrypeople, show your competence, creativity and competitiveness. European process technology, engineering skills, experience and training are still world leaders.

EUROGUSS 2020 is the start of the new 20s, and we are happy to be your media companion - good luck and good luck!

Global Casting Magazine - March 2020 Issue

If COVID-19 were a new alloy, a new molding system, or an ingenious measuring technology, we would enthusiastically accept the topic and discuss the possible applications in practice.

When COVID-19 started on its gruesome path, first in Wuhan and then in the rest of the world, we felt that COVID-19, also called the coronavirus, is an “enemy” that attacks our people, our societies, industry, and economy.

Nobody is immune and the antidote is still a long time coming. In the meantime, politics drive public life and with it also our foundry industry, its suppliers and most of the cast buyers markets to zero. It’s a nightmare with science fiction quality that also bind us together, the consequences affect us all!

Now that production is shut down and many people are now working from home and only able to accomplish the most necessary tasks, we are given time that we might otherwise not have used.
It is the time to think ahead to prepare for what comes after COVID, in life and also in our industry. Politics provides enormous financial support worldwide. This capital has to be used in a targeted manner, for example in new technology, processes, and digitalization.

While the first signs of a return to normal life are already visible in China, the rest of the world is still fighting bravely and decisively, because there is life after COVID and the joy that we can meet and exchange personally again. In the meantime, we provide you with the most important information from the world of metal casting in the media at all levels. ■

Stay healthy and hopeful!

While  looking to buy a new company car  this year, I asked the salesman at the local dealership of a leading German premium car producer, ”Where do the main castings of this new car come from?”

“Sir, your car’s parts are cast and assembled in Mexico, so you can count on it being state-of-the-art.”No doubt about it, I have confidence driving this new car, because the standards of quality for the Mexican casting industry are internationally recognized. The Mexican foundry industry not only produces high class castings, the industry
is engaged in research and development, able to produce technologically compl x components.

Despite some uncertainties in the markets and technological challenges, Mexico remains economically stable and existing industries like automotive, mining, oil and aerospace prosper based on a solid reputation and hard-working labour force. Mexico`s industry is also planning ahead - see the interview with Nemak CEO, Armando Tamez, and his thoughts about the future of electronic vehicles.

Foundry-Planet wishes all exhibitors and visitors of Fundiexpo and EUROGUSS, the new partner for the die-casting industry, good luck, fruitful talks, and great success!

The Ankiros in Istanbul is a reflection of the Turkish foundry industry taking place every other year.

As a long-term media partner of the fair, we have seen but one trend the past years: the Turkish foundry industry has been continuously growing in the global market. We are told that it targets include a production volume of 3 million tons of castings per year, of which 60% are destined for export.

Certainly no one can deny that political or economic uncertainties exist in Turkey, but thanks to European mechanical engineering and their expertise, the Turkish foundry industry’s position remains strong. According to official information, there is far less dependence on currency fluctuations than international perception. To read more about this, see Foundry-Planet’s interview with Tunçağ CihangirŞ en of the Turkish Foundry Association.

In the face of difficult challenges, unity and self-esteem are always good companions.

International customers and suppliers should acknowledge and cooperate with this will and the creative power of the Turks to master the upcoming challenges stably and seriously. We know how much psychology is involved in economic processes, which is why the Turkish foundry industry should continue steadfastly on its path, because its global partners rely on political and economic stability.

Ankiros is an excellent forum to deepen existing connections and to create new ideas together.

Good luck and success to all exhibitors and visitors! Glückauf!

ASEAN represents a region of future markets with about 600 million citizens, where the large, multinational suppliers are already operating.

With Indonesia’s domestic capacity to produce significantly lower than the demands of its industries, it is a strong market for exporters, especially in the area of steel. It is also a growing center of development: in its bid to keep up with China, the drive for more modern facilities and technologies is high, and the playing field is open to global companies looking to increase their influence in the Southeast Asian region.

Indometal 2018 is a great opportunity for doing just that. A specialized trade fair with top organization by Messe Düsseldorf provides the perfect opportunity to make connections with the region’s domestic producers, who are looking to upgrade their technology and increase their competitiveness in the market. Many are looking to invest and take advantage of Indonesia’s current economic transformation.

We would like to thank our partners, VDMA and Messe Düsseldorf, for their cooperation and support for this project! We wish all the exhibitors and visitors of Indometal 2018 success and good business!

Glückauf and Good Luck!

A strong exhibition, a forward-looking common industry appearance where the European and global business is pursued seriously and solution-oriented keeping perspectives remain open would be a good response in these times.

The slogan is neither eyes closed and go for it, and certainly nor, we stop all cross-border activities and subordinate the predominance of the loud and inconsiderate.

The exhibition Ankiros in Istanbul is a reflection of the Turkish foundry industry, which has developed extremely well over the past 10 years.

The majority of Turks, the whole region has deserved that development and prosperity continue.

The Turkish Foundry industry has to stay competitive in its own interest and in partnership with suppliers, political leaders and the entire society.

For this, all participants in the industry can contribute. The current magazine foundry Turkey is an adequate example of good cooperation. We thank the Turkish Foundry Association, the foundries and our supporters from the supply industry.

It´s all about the Foundry Industry

In the face of political power interests and the flexing of muscles, for us: It‘s solely about the Foundry Industry.

At a time of political uncertainty, global economic relations and interdependence will prove to be a counter balance.

For those who excessively demand and impose forceful sanctions, are usually the first to act within their own interests. Therefore, it seems that the European Community of States is well advised to support Russia and CIS-States particularly economical, in moving towards developmental opportunities.

We know that there is a need for investment in the East in the foundry industry, and that is one of the reasons we are here to meet each other in Moscow at the Litmash exhibition. We value our contacts and would like to further develop them. It has nothing to do with confrontation, but communication.
