The American Foundry Society (AFS) is pleased to announce it has hired Richard K. Jefferson as its vice president of marketing and communications. Jefferson started with AFS on Jan. 16.

“Richard Jefferson brings a strong background in communications and marketing, and a longstanding commitment to manufacturing competitiveness,” said Doug Kurkul, the CEO of AFS. “He will play a key role in helping us advance the three pillars of the AFS vision—Advocate. Educate. Innovate.”

Jefferson has had a successful career in publications, associations, public relations for law firms, new media and video, and journalism that spans more than two decades. He has significant experience in equipment manufacturing with the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), equipment management with the Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) and trade shows, CONEXPO-CON/AGG and ICUEE.  Jefferson also has worked in the federal government in Washington, D.C., and a state government on the East Coast.

“I am excited about joining the AFS team and the opportunities in advocating for the industry,” Jefferson said. “Thanks to the metalcasting industry, we have machinery that builds our roads, powers our homes and businesses, makes the car engines we depend on for work and play, and so much more.”Jefferson will oversee the marketing of AFS, its programs and initiatives, communicating the importance of castings to the manufacturing economy, marketing the AFS Web site and social media, editorial content for magazines and newsletters, promoting AFS books and the bookstore, managing media relations and creative services.

The American Foundry Society is a not-for-profit organization formed in 1896. With its headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois, AFS provides members and consumers with information and services to promote and strengthen the metalcasting industry.
