Held every two years, the World Foundry Congress is one of the leading industry events on minerals, metals, alloys, and ores. At the recent World Foundry Congress in Krakow, Poland (23-27 September 2018), Clariant was present, both as a corporate gold sponsor of the event and with a with a BU FM team presenting Clariant’s sustainable solutions for foundry and discussing trends and developments in technical lectures and with visitors at the booth.

This year’s event gathered more than 900 participants from more than 40 countries, representing industry and academia. More than 200 presentations, 180 poster sessions, and 40 scientific and technical sessions took place during two congress days in the ICE Congress Center in Krakow. More than 50 exhibitors from around the globe showcased their solutions at the accompanying Creative Foundry Exhibition.

“Our presence in this leading industry event as well as our support of the World Foundry Organization (WFO) as a lifetime legacy sponsor are key factors of Clariant´s successful positioning in the foundry industry,” explains Derya Baykal, Technical Marketing Manager Europe, Middle East & Africa. “It is the most important global gathering for the industry and it connects industry and academia, offering a platform for young researchers and practitioners as well.”

Technical sessions on topics such as ecology and management, digitalization, materials, and technology provided an overview on the latest developments in the area of foundry. Clariant colleagues demonstrated the company’s expertise with two lectures. Thomas Engelhardt, Application Development Manager for BU FM and the inventor of LE Technology, held a lecture on “10 years of industrial experience with low-emission additives for molding sand.” He explained how LE Technology helps foundries to achieve their environmental targets. A second lecture was given by Lorenzo Sechi, Head of Business Group Foundry Additives at BU FM, who, together with Vitor Anjos of the Centre for Innovation and Technology Nachimuto Mahalingam (CITNM) in Portugal, introduced their cooperation which aims to drive knowledge and innovation in the metallurgy field.
