Foundries are constantly being monitored on emissions. The main processes producing emissions, such as core coating, are moving away from using alcohol- to water-based products as they have been scrutinised for VOCs.

However, there are other areas that can have an effect on overall emissions, particularly where petroleum based products are used. Responding to this, the R&D team at John Winter has focused on improving the emissions from release agents, developing an innovative new product for greensand moulding.

John Winter has developed PF900 to not only eliminate these emissions but also improve mould quality on metal and plastic patterns. The low viscosity of the product means it easily atomises, producing a fine, even coating of the tooling, allowing the mould to be effortlessly stripped.

With its environmental agenda in mind, John Winter has created a product to be biodegradable and to contain no hydrocarbons.

Adam Bennett, sales director at John Winter, said: “Our research and development team has been working to produce a foundry and operator-friendly greensand release agent, and PF900 is just that. The product has a low odour and its ability to produce a uniform coating on the pattern results in low consumption rates, meaning it’s not only environmentally-friendly but cost efficient, too.”
