German industry finds itself firmly in massive crisis - but expects a recovery back to 2018 levels by 2022

Nine months after the begin of Corona, Germany's foundry industry remains in a crisis. Nevertheless, the majority of the industry is expecting a radical recovery by 2022. This is the third finding from the personal relationships of the Federal Association of the German Foundry Industry (BDG).

Survey
Since March 2020, the basic structure of the same questions is changed depending on the situation. The now sixth survey, this one from calender week 42, consisted of eight questions.

The answers to a number of personal questions have stabilized - here, the handling of the crisis situation has leveled off. For example, a consistant 96% of foundries affirm that “displaced persons on the operational process” to persons, owners “order losses” (92%). Of these, 87% found “noticeable” or “serious” losses.

The industry has recorded massive losses in terms of presentation and production, is on short-time work and is reducing, listening, and personally: This was the tenor of the last two surveys and has now continued in October. Companies buy an average of 21.8% on sales, a figure that was quickly identical in September.

The question of the level of the boom year 2018 was new. Of these, the far-sighted group calls for around 54% to die in the course of 2022. 27% of companies bought after 2021. 19% of the companies see the time horizon after 2022 of a production output compared to the crisis year 2020.

"The German foundry industry has a moment in a difficult crisis - nevertheless the signs - with the justification just mentioned - are very good for a continuous recovery in the course of 2022", says Max Schumacher, General Manager of the BDG. "It shows once again that the foundries can make a personal contribution to the performance of future tasks."
