Asmet was pleased to exhibit at the successful Namtec - AMRC Annual Conference on Wednesday 17th October.
The event was well attended by a large number of delegates from leading companies in the metals sector including Boeing, Rolls-Royce, GKN Aerospace and Sheffield Forgemasters, and provided a fascinating insight into the technology challenges and developments in advanced metals manufacturing.
Asmet displayed the very latest in metallurgical process control systems including ATAS® Metstar for advanced thermal analysis, Novaflow and Solid CV for advanced casting simulation, and our new, improved portable ATAS® units for process and material trials.
Andrew Parker, Operations Manager at Asmet commented ‘It was particularly interesting to hear from Professor Keith Ridgway, Research Director and co-founder of the AMRC about how important it is for the UK to produce the large castings required for the new generation of wind and nuclear power - quite simply, if UK foundries do not produce them, the UK will also lose out on the machining work and the whole supply chain will lose out.'
Don Tittensor also reflected on the presentation by Jesus Talamantes-Silva, Research and Development Director at Sheffield Forgemasters International. ‘There was a focus on the advanced casting and forging techniques used by Sheffield Forgemasters and how computer systems for design, simulation and data measurement help them to produce some of the largest, most complex castings in the world. Asmet has long invested in the latest metallurgical process control systems and we believe that their price, performance and demands from castings end users make a compelling case for foundries to invest in this technology.'
Other presentations included the advanced metals manufacturing techniques and materials for aerospace by GKN Aerospace, developments at the Advanced Manufaturing Park in Sheffield, the Samulet II project (Strategic Affordable Manufacturing in the UK through Leading Environmental Technology) led by Rolls Royce, high pressure & high temperature valve development by BEL Valves, and an update on The Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (Nuclear AMRC).
