Czech car output to surpass 1 million mark in 2010

CTK quoted Mr Antonin Sipek head of Automotive Industry Association as saying that car output in the Czech Republic will grow to 1.015 million units in 2010 as compared with 984,000 in 2009 and 948,000 in 2008. On the contrary, bus production will fall by 18% YoY.

Between 1989 and mid 2010, a total of 10.5 million cars were produced in the Czech Republic. Czech car output has been growing annually. The biggest growth so far was registered in 2005 when car maker TPCA launched production in Kolin. In 2005, 603,000 cars were produced, compared with 449,000 units the year before.

In spite of this, Czech car industry was hit by the economic crisis. The number of SAP members has decreased slightly to 151 companies, which together employ around 101,000 permanent staff at present.

The average wage in Czech car industry has risen moderately to about CZK 27,600 in 2010.

Mr Sipek said that "Labor production is slightly higher than in most of industrial branches."
