The American Foundry Society is bringing its annual meeting and industry showcase to Cleveland for the first time in more than 40 years.

The Schaumburg, Ill.-based trade association, which represents what it describes as a $33 billion industry, announced the 124th Metalcasting Congress will be held in Cleveland in 2020. It will take place April 21-23 at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, according to an email from an association spokesman.

More than 2,200 people and 225 exhibitors are expected to attend the event.

In a news release, the association said Cleveland last hosted the trade show in 1974. Columbus was the last Ohio city to host the event, in 2012.

"Ohio is home to more foundries than any other state, which makes it a prime location for Metalcasting Congress," said American Foundry Society CEO Doug Kurkul, a Cleveland native, in a statement.

Metalcasting Congress was established in 1896. The trade association described it as "one of the largest metalcasting trade events in North America" and said it "includes exhibits from foundries and industry suppliers, technical presentations and educational courses, keynote speeches, and awards for leaders and innovators in metalcasting."

This year's Metalcasting Congress was April 3-5 in Fort Worth, Texas. The 2019 event will be at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from April 27-30.
