Brazilian raw steel output up by 2.2pct YoY in March 2012

According to Instituto Aço Brasil, Brazil's raw steel production rose by 2.2% YoY in March 2012 to 3.1 million tonnes, driven by flat steel output. Rolled steel production grew by 3.4% YoY to 2.4 million tonnes.

Sales in the Brazilian market rose by 1.5% from March 2011 to 1.9 million tonnes of steel products. The country imported 338,000 tonnes of steel products in March and 996,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2012, up by 15% YoY from the first quarter of 2011.
