Fuels - time for new challenges!
At the end of February 2024, decision-makers and experts from engine developers and fuel specialists from all over the world will meet in Baden-Baden to discuss the future of the combustion engine in a practical way. In particular, the political decision to allow the approval of new combustion engines in the EU even after 2035 if they run on non-fossil fuels opens up a new need for discussion and action!
The focus of the congress is on the technical potential of the combustion engine for emission-neutral mobility in the future, both in the automotive and especially in the non-automotive sector! The ambitious climate targets of this and the coming decades will probably not be achieved with electromobility alone. An important key here is the issue of fuel, because its decarbonisation would help the overall engine-fuel system to move in the right direction towards a climate-neutral drive.
The aim of the congress is to specifically utilise the synergies with regard to fuels, their properties and the new approaches to powertrain development that arise from them. By closely interlinking car and commercial vehicle engine developers and fuel experts, we want to promote the exchange of experience both nationally and internationally within the multi-track congress.
The congress is organised by the VDI Wissensforum and ATZlive and is regarded in the industry as the platform for open, controversial and forward-looking discussions about the mobility of tomorrow.
At the 4th VDI conference "Casting Technology and E-Mobility", you can find out what impact electromobility is having on foundry companies that manufacture engines and components for the automotive industry. The conference will present how casting processes, production routes and value chains are changing as a result of the electrification of the powertrain and what this means for the positioning of foundries on the market. Numerous field reports from OEMs, suppliers and research institutes will ensure a high level of practical relevance.
Effects of electrification in the powertrain on the use of casting technology
Electromobility has plunged the entire automotive, supplier and foundry industries into a fundamental change process that is still ongoing. Rising registration figures in Germany and Asia in particular clearly show what the drive topologies of new models will look like.
What products does the electrification of the powertrain offer for the use of casting technology? Which new processes will be used in the future? What new business models are emerging? How can you secure market share at an early stage?
The 4th VDI conference "Casting Technology E-Mobility" is the platform where representatives of OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, foundry experts and scientists come together to discuss these developments. The topics of the conference include:
- Transformation of the industry and market development à both conferences
- Casting technology in the powertrain
- Battery box & GiGa-Casting
- Components for the fuel cell
- Ecological topics
- The latest from research for the industry
- Joining of cast parts
NEW BEGINNINGS - THE TRANSFORMATION MUST CONTINUE
The dynamic market and process landscape of the automotive industry presents a heterogeneous picture. While certain segments are experiencing a remarkable upswing, others are facing tough challenges. Central to this development is the increasing pressure from new competitors and products, changing supply chain structures and new business potential. Against this backdrop, strategic priorities need to be adjusted.
Development, procurement, production, logistics and market processes must be increasingly networked and reorganised. In view of the diversity of market assessments among existing and new partners, it is imperative to align strategies and projects in such a way that they ensure better integration in the processes of local and global transformation.
The concrete design of this realignment is the focus of the upcoming AKJ Automotive Congress on 9 and 10 April 2024, where renowned OEMs, suppliers, service providers and implementation experts will share and discuss their perspectives and solutions in keynote speeches, panel discussions, specialist contributions, plant tours and workshops

Trade Fair for Castings and Forgings with Processing
Product complexity and the demands on castings and forgings are increasing. It is important for customers to obtain a high-quality, ready-to-install product. CastForge will bring together supply and demand, and will present the value-added chain extending from cast blanks or forging blanks and machining through to the final component.
MEGACASTING:LESS IS MORE
In recent years, a rapid development has been made in the mega casting technology led by the EV manufacturers. The mega casting process is mainly applied in the production of rear floor, front engine compartment, etc. Die casting process for sub-frame and chassis has also been gradually optimized. As one of the most complete industrial clusters in the national die casting industry, Ningbo has created a characteristic development model with a one-stop full industry chain, which has reflected its advantages in the fields of die casting machine, moulding, materials, CNC machining and other peripheral facilities. In 2024, the China Die Casting Congress will explore more possibilities with colleagues in the die casting industry for the innovation and optimization of die casting process, with the conception of “less is more”.

The 3rd Carl R. Loper Conference on Processing of Metallic Materials through Casting and Solidification
It is our great privilege to invite you to the 3rd Carl Loper Conference. While the first two events featuring the name of Carl Loper, organized in Madison Wisconsin (2009) and Bilbao Spain (2019) had as main subject cast iron alone, this conference has an expanded scope to include Processing of Metallic Materials through Casting and Solidification. This is because Professor Carl Loper’s name has become synonymous with not just cast iron, but with all facets of metalcasting. “Carl Loper” is a brand. It represents a tradition, but also the vision to go beyond the borders of the known science and engineering of metal casting, which is the goal of this conference.
The event will be held during 23-25 September 2024, at the Sergiu T. Chiriacescu Aula of Transilvania University in the historic city of Brasov, Romania.
Digital transformation of manufacturing companies discussed at METAL
Companies' development and strengthening market position depend on the implementation of digital transformation in a given company. This long-term process requires proper preparation; otherwise, digital transformation projects fail. "How to introduce an effective digital transformation in a production company? " - the seminar organized by the Enterprise Europe Network Centre at the Staropolska Chamber of Industry and Commerce was chaired by Michał Żelichowski, who emphasized that digital transformation is a necessity, but it can only be achieved in small steps. The insight into digital expansion was supplemented by a webinar "The industry of the future and the metal industry". The participants learned, inter alia, what is the industry of the future and whether the metal industry can be modern.
The autumn event, which brings together companies professionally involved in the metallurgical market, still welcomes exhibitors. The expo accompanying seminar can be an excellent opportunity to present modern solutions designed for the industry. The sessions offered an immense dose of practical knowledge.
The upcoming meeting of the metallurgical industry companies will be held at Targi Kielce in autumn 2024.
